Math Preview/Review ("MPR") addresses many of the Common Core State Standards and reviews skills on a daily basis to help students maintain fluency in addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and other skills that can easily be forgotten if not constantly revisited. These daily assignments also preview skills that will be required later on in the school year. This helps students develop familiarity with them before being asked to master them in the course of a few days.
The daily assignments can be displayed on interactive white boards, overheads, or used with document cameras to reduce the number of pages required to be run on a daily basis. My students copy the problems directly from the board into their math notebooks and then correct the problems with me. There is an assignment for the first four days of the week and a quiz for Friday.
Math Preview/Review: Part 1 offers the first ten weeks of my math program. It has the answer key included for all assignments. In addition to the above mentioned skills, Math Preview/Review: Part 1 introduces additional concepts such as arrays, place value, rounding, comparison of multi-digit numbers, and order of operation.
My fourth grade team and I have been using Math Preview/Review for many years. In 2012, 99% of our fourth grade students were proficient or advanced on the CST. Although I know many factors go into high test scores, I'd like to think that MPR played a role in helping us attain our goal!
I have my first week offered as my freebie. Feel free to check it out!
