This Fourth Grade Math Student Mastery Tracker
is an excellent way to invest students in their own learning.
This tracker takes the somewhat wordy Common Core State Standards for math and lists them as twenty-eight kid-friendly learning goals. For example- 4.NF.C.7 "Compare two decimals to hundredths by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two decimals refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions" is written as 13. Comparing Decimals through Hundredths. Don't worry! The actual standard number is written in parentheses just for you!
I have found this tracker to be most successful if I print two copies on card-stock for each of my students. One copy students keep in their binder or math notebook and the other copy you keep. I refer to my own set frequently when thinking about small group reteaching or tutoring. Students love to have their own copies and these I make sure to print on a bright color so they feel proud to keep up with it. Each time a student demonstrates mastery of a certain skill, I hole punch the square next to that objective.
