Product Description
This is Week 1 of the 4-A-Day STAAR Test Prep and is a collection of 20 spiral review questions that are in a test format to help students practice strategies to help them be successful on the STAAR assessment in 4th Grade.

It is meant to be a supplement to our Texas Tornado Daily Spiral Review.

I created this series of materials to be used as a Morning Work or Bellwork assignment for the 8-12 weeks before the STAAR test. However, it can be used in a variety of ways to meet your needs including for intervention.

This is one week worth of questions (20 questions.) If you would like the Bundle of Weeks 1-8 (160 questions, please click below.)

Each day (Monday-Friday) has 4 questions over different student expectations. Throughout the weeks, different standards will be rotated in the boxes.

In the preview, you will see the TEKS that will be rotated through the weeks in the boxes for each day. In the 6 weeks, Readiness Standards will be questioned more than the Supporting Standards.

There is a weekly tracking sheet called a Blackout Score Sheet and a 6-Weeks tracking sheet called a Progress Tracking Sheet. Students get to track their own progress and it helps them set goals for themselves. There is also a link to a spreadsheet to track your students' progress through Google Sheets.

The TEKS included in Week 1 are in the Preview. This page is called the “Blackout” sheet.

This is the way that I use the 4-A-DAY in my class. Of course there are so many other ways it can be used. This is just what works for me!

1.) Students answer the 4 questions independently, just like on an assessment during the first 15 minutes of class. (If they finish those 4 questions before the 15 minutes is up, I let them go on to the next day.)

2.) Students then get a marker to check their own work as we talk about each problem as a class and talk about the strategies. If students include certain strategies I’ve taught them, I let them give themselves a star for a bonus point.

3.) If students get a question correct, they get to “BLACKOUT” (color) the box on their Blackout Score Sheet next to that problem number. (see the example) Of course the main goal is to get as many “blackouts” as possible.

4.) If they get a question wrong, they circle the problem number on the Score Sheet.

5.) After we have checked all 4 questions, they total their score by writing the number of questions they get right next to the + sign and the number of questions they get wrong next to the – sign.

6.) Then they color in the bar graph on the Progress Tracking sheet for that week on that day. This bar graph helps them track their progress over the weeks. They can also write a goal on the back of this sheet as well.
(T-TESS points! ;)

The Blackout Sheet helps me and the students know which standards they still need practice on. I will use this data and other assessment data to plan my intervention groups as well as to create review lessons for intervention.

Many times, at the end of the week, I have students put their answers into a Google Form also to help me track the entire class’s progress, so I know concepts I need to review with students during intervention or in class.

Please download the preview to see the types of questions, the trackers, and the TEKS rotation from week to week. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thank you,
Erica Hennigh

We also love using The Amazing Race to STAAR two-three weeks before the STAAR to Review. Last year, we started this after finishing the 4-A-Day packet.
Our students LOVE this game. It's available in our sister store at this link:
