In this unit project-based learning unit, 4th grade students will learn about city planning and development as well as current and future efforts to create a cleaner environment that leaves less of a footprint on our planet. Students pair up to diversify efforts, but act as a team to present their learning and their plan to city council members.
Students will research and report what other green cities across the world are doing to become a place that uses 100% renewable energy. They will also be learning about the way cities are designed and built and challenged against each other to build the most energy efficient city. Students compare maps of cities locally and nationally. There is a lot of applied math and real-life applications in this unit. Math becomes very engaging! They will write an opinionated persuasive essay that they will bring to a presentation in front of an authentic audience.
