All Materials needed for lessons (aside from books students choose)
1. Reading: Reading Response Scavenger Hunt to use with any
Sub reads aloud ANY picture book and students complete a Reading Response Scavenger Hunt that focuses on making predictions, story elements, summary, character traits, nouns, verbs, adjectives, and rating the book. Students then read their own independent book and do the same.
2. Spelling: Working with Words with High Frequency Words List
Students use a provided High Frequency Word List or their own lists to write the part of speech, a sentence, and a picture for each word. (Spinning Spelling game option also included)
3. Writing: Proofreading Partner Power
Sub copies a paragraph from ANY book and writes it on the board, making one mistake in each sentence. Students must find and correct the mistake. Next, students get with partners and take turns being the teacher and writing a paragraph with mistakes and having the partner find and fix each mistake. (writing a friendly letter option also included)
4. Math: Five Math Games with Number Cards to use with each
(differentiated with a challenge choice)
a. Estimation Station:
Students choose four cards to make a six digit number. They must race their partner to round that number to the nearest tens, hundreds, and thousands.
b. Place Value Strategist: Students draw six number cards and must use their knowledge of place value to create the greatest and least number possible.
c. Addition's My Mission: Students will add 5 digit numbers with one student as the “talker” and another student as the “writer.” The talker must explain what to do, step by step so the writer can write. The writer can only do what the talker specifically states.
d. Division Dynamite: Students draw four cards to make a four digit dividend. They choose another card as the divisor. Students must use long division to solve.
e. Mental Math Mania: Students must create a four digit factor and a one digit factor to multiply. They must race each other for the answer.
5. Science/Social Studies: Research to the Rescue Mini Book: use with any Nonfiction text
Students read any nonfiction text and complete a mini research book that allows them to become the expert on that topic. My students beg to do this during regular days when I am there!

WHY THIS SUB BINDER?
Amy B said, "You are a life saver! I built these up into several different days versions in case I needed to miss...sure enough, I ended up with appendicitis and didn't have to even worry about anything! I texted a colleague and told her to have the sub start with drawer 1 and work her way through drawer 7. Thank you for saving my sub from insanity!"
Carolyn said, "I am "kind of" a control freak when it comes to guest teachers coming into my classroom, so this resource helped immensely, especially on the days when I wasn't expecting to be out. This way I always know that things are organized and spelled out exactly. Thank you so much!"
Shelby said, "Great resource to have in a pinch. I will definitely be getting these copied to have in case of an emergency. I was just out recently with the flu, and I had to sit and think of things to send in that a sub could do with my kids. No more thinking now."
Buying one for each of your teammates is really cheap! I am only charging $2 for each extra teacher!!
