This is a glyph designed to encourage 4th or 5th graders to read informational text for details. Pairs of students read one of seven short biographies and answer questions in order to fill in a glyph about a famous American. Students then exchange glyphs, and, by reading, determine whose biography is described. They must then compare and contrast the 2 famous Americans by converting the 2 glyphs to a Venn Diagram. A follow up writing activity is included that involves comparing and contrasting using details and quotes from the text. A website is included where the short bios can be downloaded and printed for use. Color coded answer sheets also are included for quick checking. A chart lists the ELA Common Core Standards covered by the 2 day activity.
