Topic 1 Overview
Aligned to Texas STAAR

This resource offers 8 days of teaching place value. I designed this resources to help my Title I students. I have found that Title I students need to have more practice and spiraling of that material. There should not be teach one day and forget until before the test. Therefore, I designed these next 8 days to have at least 5-8 questions that spiral in from previous days concepts.

For each day I have created notes that have examples and an independent worksheet for the students to do on their own or paired. As a teacher you should be able to teach the concept fully using my notes and then allow the students to show their learning by completing the worksheet. Here is a breakdown of the days:

Day 1 - Focuses on expanded notation through 1,000,000,000 without decimals
4.2(B) represent the value of the digit in whole numbers through 1,000,000,000 and decimals to the hundredths using expanded notation and numerals

Day 2 - Focuses on expanded notation and incorporates the decimals to the hundredths place
4.2(B) represent the value of the digit in whole numbers through 1,000,000,000 and decimals to the hundredths using expanded notation and numerals

Day 3 - Focuses on TEK 4.2A
4.2(A) interpret the value of each place-value position as 10 times the position to the right and as one-tenth of the value of the place to its left

Day 4 - Focuses on comparing and ordering whole numbers
4.2(C) compare and order whole numbers to 1,000,000,000 and represent comparisons using the symbols >, <, or =

Day 5 - Focuses on making sure students understand how to model decimals using both money and tenths and hundredths grids
4.2(E) represent decimals, including tenths and hundredths, using concrete and visual models and money

Day 6 - Focuses on using grids to help students relate decimals to fractions
4.2(G) relate decimals to fractions that name tenths and hundredths

Day 7 - Focuses on using the models of decimals to compare and order numbers
4.2(F) compare and order decimals using concrete and visual models to the hundredths

Day 8 - Focuses on decimals on a numberline
4.2(H) determine the corresponding decimal to the tenths or hundredths place of a specified point on a number line

Full 9 question test that incompasses every TEK taught with readiness standards having 2 questions.
