Practice differentiating between letters, numbers, and words with these sorting sheets

With these sorts, students categorize letters, numbers, and/or words and write them in the appropriate location on their sort. This provides students with the opportunity to use manipulatives and writing tools as they continue to practice letters and numbers and distinguish these from words.

This is a print and go product (very little teacher prep!) – all you have to do it print, put it in a page protector, and set it out with your class set of letters/numbers (possibly separated, depending on the sort) and dry erase markers. Letter and word cards are included if you need them.

This would also be a great activity for students to do in small groups with a substitute teacher.

In My Class:

I would introduce the sorting activity with the letter/number sort during morning meeting or a teacher-led small group, then put it in a center for students to work on.

I would follow it with the capital/lowercase sort using an inquiry approach, as it also contains 2 categories.

When students are ready for to add the 3rd category, I would reteach directly, as this can be confusing.

Help your students practice identifying and writing capital and lowercase letters

Working independently or in small groups, students choose a capital letter and practice writing the lowercase letter on their recording sheets. This can be done just for fun or students can time themselves and work to beat their best time.

This is a print and go product (no teacher prep!) – all you have to do it print, put it in a page protector, and set it out with whatever letters you have and some dry erase markers.
