Moving images are all around us. From television and movies to streaming media and mobile devices, never in history have moving images been so accessible. It can seem challenging to find activities to help students learn about film and video. Art-making workshops can enhance students’ learning; students who learn best by making, or by seeing something be made, will benefit from hands-on workshops. Workshops allow students to experiment, in an environment where experimentation—including fumbling and failure—is a safe experience. Workshops that explore film, video, and other time-based media do not have to be complex, technological affairs; educators can break works down into themes, and explore those themes with simple materials.
