When teaching English as a Second Language to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, this handout identifies manual syntax (note: non-manual features are not identified on handout) of American Sign Lagnuage (ASL). This product is intended to be paired with "5 Basic Sentence Patterns in English". When used in combination, students begin to recognize variants in grammatical structure as well as patterns that exist separately as well as similarly in both languages. Initially, this grammar concepts are introduced using grammatical categories such as Who/What, Verbs, Adjectives, Where. Later, students can progress to advanced grammatical categories, such as Noun, Verb, Prepositional Phrases. Color coding creates a visual representation of complex content.
