This vocabulary sheet may be used with any subject's (Reading, Science, Social Studies, Math, Spanish, etc.) vocabulary that student's need to study.
This vocabulary study takes a quick 15 minutes each day.
Day 1 - Students write down each of the vocabulary words with the definitions provided by the teacher. Teacher asks students how they can relate to the definition. "Invisible - something that can not be seen. What kinds of things are invisible?"
Day 2 - Students review each word individually and brainstorm ways to draw something to represent the word. Students draw a picture in the chart on the bottom of the sheet and label it to correspond to the definitions.
Day 3 - Students review each word and then brainstorm hand motions that would represent each word. The class agrees to use one hand motion and it is practiced.
Day 4 - The teacher creates "scenarios" involving the vocabulary words. For example, "The shoes on my feet are invisible". If students think that statement is true, they make the corresponding hand motion from Day 3. If students think the statement is false, they sit like a soldier.
Day 5 - Students are given a quiz on the studied vocabulary words.
I have found SUCH great success with this process and to top it off, students look forward to it each day!!
