This can be used a poster or a handout to help students retell or summarize after reading. Students can use this strategy to help them do either an oral or written summary. It also incorporates a variety of questioning words. Each finger represents the following questions:
WHO were the characters?
WHEN & WHERE does the story take place?
WHAT happened in the beginning, middle, and end?
WAS there a problem? WHAT was it? WHAT was the solution?
WHAT was the most important part and WHY?
