"Ms, I don't know if I want to learn that song because the monkeys are cute but there's a crocodile too and I'm scared for the monkeys..." as one of my first graders put it when they came into class and saw a large paper tree with 5 monkeys in it and a crocodile sitting mysteriously at the base of the tree. I thought I had outdone myself but my kindergartners loved it and in one class period we sand the song 3 times! Even three year later, my kindergartners are now in 2nd grade and still want to sing "the monkey crocodile song" as they began to call it.
Made sense to see if I could re-create this song on PowerPoint as I've been moving a lot of my resources to be used on a SmartBoard. I think at the moment I've outdone myself with an animated PowerPoint but I hope that my students (and hopefully your students) will enjoy this.
If you know the song, 5 monkeys are in a tree and a crocodile tries to eat the monkeys. The crocodile jumps up to get the monkeys one by one and one disappears each time. I like teaching this song to help my younger students reinforce their counting as well
Each slide is animated a little different to keep the kids eager to see what happens next
