“Religions Wall” activity
• Match the religious word to the correct heading
• Class discussion on placement of word
Attached are terms, images, and places for each of the 5 major world religions- Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism.
Print the names of the religions on RED paper and cut them into 5 slips. These are the religions.
Print the terms on YELLOW paper and cut them into strips so only one term is on a strip. These are your terms.
Print the images/symbols on WHITE paper. Cut them into strips so only 1 image is on a strip. These are your images.
Students will be broken into groups of 4-5 people.
Tape the 5 Religion strips at different locations around your room.
Each group will receive several cards/strips having either terms, places or pictures dealing with a certain religion.
Students will take the strips/cards and tape them to the board with the religion they think it is most associated with.
After students have placed all the cards on the board, ask groups if they think any cards could be placed in another group. Have students explain their answers.
This is a diagnostic that can be used to assess prior knowledge or used to informally assess their knowledge at the culmination of the unit. All slips are key terms, symbols or locations concerning the 5 religions.
The entire activity should take less than 20 minutes. I recommend you laminate the strips once you print them so they can be used repeatedly.
