This outline is broken down into each step for each paragraph giving the students reminders and tips on what to do next. Picture support is included to help the students remember each step of the process & the writing is also color coded to help visually support the students. You can use this outline for a written draft or use it on Google Classroom. I posted this outline on Google Classroom and the students directly wrote their rough draft onto this form. Once the form was completed, the students deleted the headings of each step to then turn it into a 5 paragraph essay.
For example here is the breakdown of an introduction paragraph:
Paragraph 1: Introduction
Step 1: AGO→ Grab your reader’s attention! Question or big idea about the themes of your stories.
Step 2: Bridge → Briefly retell what story #1 is about (Make sure you include author’s full name).
Step 3: Bridge → Briefly retell what story #2 is about. (Make sure you include author’s full name).
Step 4: Thesis Statement → The point you want to prove. The main idea of your essay that you will continually refer back to throughout your essay.
