This Graphic Organizer serves as a guide for students on writing each part of a 5 paragraph essay. It includes directions for each sentence and section as well as examples. Students can write the drafts of their essays directly on this organizer. Give it to students each time they write an essay. They can also leave a blank copy in their notebooks to reference.
Although it was created with English and specifically, literary analysis papers in mind, it could easily be adapted for History papers by making small tweaks to the Introduction paragraph directions and the Conclusion.
For example: For History; change the Broad Statement to only establish the time and place and use the Summary of work to instead elaborate on the era. These could be Map points put before the actual Thesis Statement. NOTE: Map Points are the Topic sentence of each Body Paragraph. They can also be part of the thesis statement.
