This is a fun printable activity created for use in a small grrup center to reinforce geography skills and knowledge of region locations throughout the US.
How to Play:
Small group center 4-5 students
White Electrical Tape for Region Outlines
United States Poster and Contact Paper
Small Group Materials:
Spinner board (provided; Print onto Cardstock and/or Laminate)
Small paper clip
How To: First, the Teacher must create outline of regions on the floor (the best they can) using the electrical tape. Do not label the regions, (This can also be done with states using a poster and contact paper. ) Provide students with spinner board. One person in the group will be the Caller and the others will play. They can rotate after the first person wins, the winner will become the caller.
Have the caller place the spinner on a flat surface. Place a Paperclip
on the tip of a pencil and the point of the pencil in the center of the
spinner board. While holding the pencil have the caller flick the paper clip,
causing it to spin, This will be the game spinner. They must call out the region and the hand/foot that the spinner lands on… (i.e. “Right hand: Southwest”). The playing students must identify the region and place the correct appendage there. If a student cannot identify the region or moves off/falls they are out. Last student standing wins.
This was not my ORIGINAL idea. I modified an idea found online and made it my own. The Image source is unknown, but was found on Pinterest. I simply designed my own rules for play and a spinner for the game!
