Product Description

Oftentimes, we just need a little filler for music class during the holiday season and these five stand-alone SMARTBoard Holiday activities for the music classroom are perfect for those times. Used separately, they can be a filler; used all together, they make an awesome lesson: listening for high/low sounds, vocal exploration, musical map/ listening activity, and two music+math addition, subtraction, even, odd games.

Stand-alone activities include:
Snowman note value math: Students add/subtract note values to reach a total. If the total is odd, they put a blue hat on the snowman, if the total is even, they put a red hat on the snowman. The correct hat will spin and the incorrect hat will bounce back.
Santa's Ho Ho's: vocal patterns to follow
Ornament High and Low: Students listen to three different linked ornaments to determine if the sound is high or low.
Snowball note shootout:This is a very cool way to utilize the linked objects in SMARTNotebook 11. Students touch a snowflake>receive a challenge (i.e. find all of the quarter notes, all of the eighth notes, enough notes to equal 7 beats or 12 beats or 6 beats, etc) >go to a page filled with spinning note-snowflakes that stop spinning as soon as they are touched. A surprise SPLAT awaits the unsuspecting student every now and then!
Caroler Tune Puzzle: Students listen to two linked bells and try to identify the sound of the musical map that they see on the page. There are built-in responses for correct and incorrect answers.

These 5 holiday activities are not just fillers! It is so fun to watch the students work together to solve the math problems. Don't forget the attached (PDF) SNOWMAN math card game - great for involving the entire class in the musical math activity. It's win-win for everyone.

These activities are fun for the teacher and interesting for the kids.

Update12/8/13: In response to a buyer's suggestion, I have updated this file and made the following changes:

The Snowman Math is now self-checking. If the answer is correct, the hat spins, if it is incorrect, the hat bounces back. This SMART Notebook 11 Activity builder add-on was not available when I first created this file. The Caroler melodies are now properly notated and look so much better! Finally, all of the ornaments are now movable.

Thanks so much for the suggestions! More than anything, I want to get better at what I'm creating.
