For the 'blind' experiments, I use sensory boxes with 5 different items. For Touch, I used a rock, a feather, a screw, a ball and playdough. For Smell, I used lemon (citrus), popcorn (butter), vinegar (sour), soil (earthy) and apple juice (sweet). For Taste, I used chocolate (sweet), potato chips (salty), Ritz crackers (savory), fresh lemon juice (sour) and olives (bitter). For sound, I played audio clips without showing the students the video. I used a lion's roar, a waterfall, thunder, waves/beach, and xylophone music.
My students loved learning about their senses by using these activities and worksheets. It opened us up to a lot of interesting, thought provoking discussion! We studied 1 sense per week for 5 consecutive weeks.
