This project is a great connection between the 5 Themes of Geography and your town! The ultimate goal of this project is for the students to demonstrate their understanding of the 5 Themes of Geography (Location, Place, Human-Environment Interaction, Movement, and Regions) to their hometown. Working in partners, the class will take a walking field trip (if teacher is willing!) with cameras to take pictures of the elements of their hometown that represent the 5 Themes. Prior to the field trip, the students plan and complete a planning page so that there is a purpose to their walking route. After the field trip is complete, the students complete a PowerPoint slideshow as outlined in the planning guide. A rubric is provided for grading purposes. It's a great hands-on approach to understanding, applying, and connecting the Social Studies curriculum to your hometown!
