Before I began this activity, students and I had gone over movement the day before as one of the 5 Themes of Geography, thereby allowing this activity to support the learning through application the following day.
The task for students was this: Locate 5 items in this classroom that were made in a different country (hint: consider the things you are wearing and things in your backpack/bag as well). Using the chart below answer the following questions about the items that you have listed from other countries. Note, each item that you consider, must have a location, if the item’s location is unknown, choose a different item.
Upon locating the items students were to answer a series of questions and finally provide an explanation of who movement got this product from its production site to our classroom/homes, beginning with the ideas (invention site - movement of ideas). I provided an example to assist students in understanding the expectation.
This could easily be converted to a homework assignment simply by changing the wording of where students are locating items - instead of classroom, their homes.
