Includes 32 weeks of 5 WAYS Spelling Practice fully aligned with 1st grade REACH FOR READING. It is called “5 Ways” because students write their weekly spelling words one time each using 5 different writing instruments including a pencil, pen, colored pencil, marker, and crayon. In the first column, students trace the dotted spelling words in pencil. In the remaining columns, they use a pen, colored pencil, marker, and crayon to practice writing the assigned spelling words.
My students sit 4 to a table. When it is time to do 5 Ways, I give each table a Ziploc sandwich bag which contains 4 pencils, 4 pens, 4 colored pencils, 4 skinny markers, and 4 crayons. This makes set up a breeze. The last student to finish at each table is responsible for putting all the items back in the Ziploc bag. It’s a fun (if not, sneaky) way to get my students to practice writing their spelling words 5 times!
