Product Description

Tired of reading the same attention grabber for each essay? This worksheet gives students a chance to explore 5 different ways to grab the readers attention. The worksheet asks students to first identify their topic (that way they can be sure to focus ONLY on their topic). After, they must create 5 ways of grabbing the readers attention by using a definition (defining their topic in their own words or giving a literal definition), using a quote that talks about their topic, using an interesting fact about their topic, explaining or summarizing their topic within a few sentences, and using a question to grab the reader's attention.

This can be given as an interactive notebook assignment, an online assignment, or just a regular paper copy assignment.

This assignment works great for any writing unit! My students loved finding these new ways and were excited to move away from the traditional "asking a question". This has been used in my general ed classes, as well as collaboration classes.

I will be uploading my Essay Outline Packet that works well with this assignment!
