This activity is for vocabulary concerning the 5 major world religions- Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism & Hinduism. I have used this with 10 grade World History students at the general ed, special ed, honors and AP level.
1- Worksheet: Contains vocabulary terms groups by faith and space to write the definition.
2- Puzzle pieces- The puzzle pieces must be cut by the teacher. I suggest they be laminated before cutting so they can be used multiple times. Each term has a matching definition piece. Teachers will need to cut these pieces and put them into 5 envelopes.
3- 5 Envelopes- NOT INCLUDED.
1. Get 5 envelopes. Label each envelope after one of the 5 major religions- Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity.
2- Cut the puzzle pieces so that the term and the correct definition go into the religion envelope for which it corresponds. (It is best to laminate the pieces before you cut them)
1. Pass out a copy of the Vocab worksheet. Break students into 5 groups.
2. Give each group 1 of the 5 envelopes.
What I have done in the past is allowed students 2 minutes to write down definitions to whatever terms they knew already. Then the group would open the envelope and put the puzzle pieces together so the correct definition is with the correct term. Any defintions students didn't know or got wrong, they must write the correct def. on the worksheet.
3. Then students would rotate envelopes and repeat the process 4 more times so they would have all the vocab terms with the correct definitions.
This activity can take anywhere from 20-40 minutes
