I LOVE using quotes at least once a week for a journal activity I call "Free Write Friday". Students (as a bell ringer) may write about ANYTHING they want, however, there will inevitably be a couple students who say they have nothing to write about.
This activity eliminates their ability to say that, b/c if they cannot think of anything to write about, they just respond to the quote! Many end up choosing this option, and even if they don't they are exposed to great literary insight at the very least.
The file has 52 quotes from famous YA novels and poems great for middle or high school students. If you used this file once a week on Fridays, there would be more than enough quotes and slides to last you the entire year!
Topics range from life, perseverance hope to books themselves.
This document includes four pages of some of the best literary quotes from poems and YA novels.
Authors of quotes include contemporary authors: John Green, Veroinca Roth, Marie Lu, Jay Asher, Sarah Dessen
and classic authors: Leo Tolstoy, T.S. Eliot, Maya Angelou, Robert Frost, William Blake
Students will love writing and analyzing the quotes to share out meaning and hopefully be intrigued by a quote or two and end up reading the book from which it came! :)
This zip file includes two documents.
If you want to print the four pages of quotes for students to have and choose from independently, you have the option.
If you would like to project each quote with the image of the book jacket when applicable, use the PowerPoint file.
