A second edition of my first 50 Working Memory Activities with a greater variety of tasks! Based on the work of Dr. Eric Jensen, this 198-slide power point presentation contains 50 days worth of 5-10 minute working memory activities that are fun and engaging. Each activity is preceded by a slide with directions for partners (all activities are intended to be done in pairs) and turn taking. Spend just 10 minutes a day (you can use these as a sponge, during an advisory class or homeroom, or as needed) for 50 days and watch your students improve! Research shows that optimal effect is 10-14 minutes/day, 3-5 days/week. The effect size for elementary students is 1.41 and on middle school students is 0.72 - 1.18 (meta-analysis, Jensen 2016).
The last slide has reflection questions for students to consider after completing all 50 lessons. Mental activities and brain builders include: ordering numbers, spelling backwards, What's Missing?, Which Doesn't Belong?, Pattern Movement Activities with music (MP4 embedded), the Stroop effect, and attending to details by finding differences.
