This is really part of a Celtic festival –Samhain.
It was the most important part of the Celtic year. People believed that at this special time the spirits of the deceased were able to meet with the living. It has become a time when we bring out our fears and wonder about fairies, ghosts, wizards and the like!
Children love to celebrate this festival with all sorts of spooky art and craft and learning activities as well as the traditional dressing up and “trick or treating.”
This learning package is written to help teachers and children celebrate this festival in a way that is not too scary!
How to use this package:
There are many learning activities included and they can utilised for many year levels.
The activities can be used for whole class, small groups or individuals.
Many of the pages could be laminated and reused with whiteboard markers in a special interest centre.
Some of the activities can be used in multiple ways. E.g. the page with eyes (p. 8) could be printed, laminated and cut up for matching or the eyes could be used for counting in 2’s.
The alphabet page (p.49) can be used in many ways- laminated, cut up to sequence the alphabet, as a chart for revision etc.
Have fun and enjoy the “spooky learning!”
