A graphic organizer for students to use when researching Pre-Colombian tribes in North America. This organizer lists 10 Tribal Regions (5 on each page) for ease of modification--use one or both pages to meet the needs of your students and their background knowledge.
Assign each region to a student or small group of students and allow them time to conduct research and jot down key words or ideas on their organizer. Then have each student or group report back to class what they have found so that all students have the chart completed.
As a class, have students compare & contrast information in their charts. Teacher can guide students to the following conclusions during this discussion:
1) there was a great amount of diversity in tribal cultures prior to the arrival of Europeans.
2) Tribes used the resources available to them to adapt to their environment. These adaptations created specific cultural features in each region.
3)Tribal regions are designated based on similar adaptations to similar environments and/or resources.
