Lots of schools celebrate the 100th Day of School. A few years ago, my class started celebrating the 50th Day of School, too! Kids were encouraged to dress in 50's style clothes (we wear uniforms at school, but there were still plenty of creative things they could do!). During the day, we had a "sock hop" which meant they went without shoes. I also downloaded lots of 50's music that I played all day long. We talked about the 50's and how much things had changed since then. We looked on the Internet at cars, food prices, clothing, etc. and compared them with things from today. In the afternoon, we had rootbeer floats. Included is a letter geared more toward schools in which students wear uniforms and a second letter for those schools where uniforms are not required.
