Adjusting for a Balanced Math instructional format, I have used EnNY with 10 minutes of Fluency work, 10-20 minutes of Review, and 30-40 minutes of new instruction. Sometimes I use Engage NY sprints for fluency work and other times I use my own based on assessment data for basic fact work. Without knowledge of basic facts, higher level thinking clogs the brain with figuring out lower level skills. Also I make adjustments for Review time by using Engage NY review of skills or using my assessment data to review skills kids are still struggling with. When you see Morning Work for review, this is an opportunity to look at data and do some specific review based on need.
