Looking for IMAGINATIVE writing prompts that guide and inspire young creatives trough the writing process gently, STEP BY STEP?
These 52 Common Core aligned prompts are ideal for emerging narrative writers who can produce sentences on everyday life but still need practical help with
- Inspiration and imagination
- Starting to write fiction
- Expanding their topic range
- Adding length and body to their text
- Establishing a writing routine and building up confidence
All the prompts are printed on four-lined paper to help with keeping letter size constant. Each prompt is laid out on it's own sheet of paper so there is plenty of writing space.
Where this resource differs from most other writing prompts is that instead of just the header or an introduction, this prompt guides the emerging writer through every step of writing their first fictional narratives. A header is provided along with about THREE OPEN ENDED SENTENCE BEGINNINGS per story to help the writer along.
In the corner of every prompt sheet there is a little WORD LIBRARY of around ten words related to the topic. Should anyone get stuck, help is near for those who need inspiration, ideas or a spell-check can borrow a word or two. In all, hundreds of words are available to help writers feel confident in expressing their ideas!
In the left-hand corner of each prompt page, there is also a small box for drawings next to the lines for date and signature.
These creative writing prompts can be used in a large group class but they are exceptionally well suited INDEPENDENT WORK, too. Thanks to the word lists provided for each topic, even a writer who usually struggles to come up with fiction can come up with sparkling stories!
There are many ways to incorporate these writing prompts in your classroom routines. You can include them in your writing center, hold creative writing workshops, spice up morning work or journal writing activities. You could even start Fiction Fridays whereby you work on creative writing once a week!
You can hand the sheets out to early finishers, those in need of a little extra practice or as fun homework assignments. There are two blank sheets included, one with a header and a box for a drawing and one filled with lines. Make sure to have these at hand for those who get swept away by inspiration and need more space!
This resource is designed in alignment with the Common Core Writing Anchor Standard 3.
