This worksheet will help you teach...
Use a pair of perpendicular number lines, called axes, to define a coordinate system, with the intersection of the lines (the origin) arranged to coincide with the 0 on each line and a given point in the plane located by using an ordered pair of numbers, called its coordinates. Understand that the first number indicates how far to travel from the origin in the direction of one axis, and the second number indicates how far to travel in the direction of the second axis, with the convention that the names of the two axes and the coordinates correspond (e.g., x-axis and x-coordinate, y-axis and y-coordinate).
This activity gives the students numerous clues to draw a picture on a coordinate plane. Each calendar piece holds a different clue, and by the end of the month the students will have a picture. The students will have to use vocabulary words such as parallel lines, y-axis and x-axis, perpendicular lines, and vertical to complete the picture. You may want to teach the vocabulary before doing the activity, or add a word wall next to your calendar and teach the voc words as they appear in the clues.
Other patterns included in the calendar are...
Color is a growing pattern; 1 red, 1 pink, 2 red, 2 pink, 3 red…etcetera
Prime numbers are in blue and composite numbers are in green
On even days: 2 divided by 1/14, 2/14, 3/14, 4/14 ect
On odd days: 2 times 1/14, 2/14, 3/14, 4/14 ect
