36 page Smart Board flip-chart to introduce The Quadrilateral Family. (created with ActivInspire software) Students are given examples and non-examples of each shape and asked to use these to give characteristics and definitions for each shape. Please check out the preview to see this in-depth lesson. I also have "Quadrilateral Sort and Student Practice Sheets" for these same standards posted in my store. This lesson will not work for schools/states taking the PARCC Assessment since PARCC defines trapezoid as a quadrilateral with at least 1 pair of parallel sides. (so a parallelogram is a trapezoid) This lesson uses the traditional US definition: a trapezoid has only 1 pair of parallel sides. I do not know how Smarter Balanced defines a trapezoid.
