Product Description
This set of 28 task cards allows students to explore multiplying with fractions and finding area of rectangles with fractional side lengths. In 5.NF.4, students extend their understanding of multiplying with fractions by multiplying a fraction or whole number by a fraction and by finding the area of a rectangle by tiling with unit squares. The task cards in this set explore multiplication of fractions by whole numbers and other fractions through fraction models, equations, and written explanations. Use these math task cards with small groups, in math centers, or with your whole class!

Contents:
• 28 Full Color Task Cards
• Blackline Masters
• Student Answer Sheet with pre-drawn rectangles

Check out the preview for a detailed look at these multiplying fractions and rectangles with fractional side lengths task cards!

Common Core Standards Alignment
Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NF.B.4
Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction or whole number by a fraction.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NF.B.4.A
Interpret the product (a/b) × q as a parts of a partition of q into b equal parts; equivalently, as the result of a sequence of operations a × q ÷ b. For example, use a visual fraction model to show (2/3) × 4 = 8/3, and create a story context for this equation. Do the same with (2/3) × (4/5) = 8/15. (In general, (a/b) × (c/d) = (ac)/(bd).
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NF.B.4.B
Find the area of a rectangle with fractional side lengths by tiling it with unit squares of the appropriate unit fraction side lengths, and show that the area is the same as would be found by multiplying the side lengths. Multiply fractional side lengths to find areas of rectangles, and represent fraction products as rectangular areas.
