Trick or Treat from TeamGurgal! This is a free version of another product in our store that contains nine puzzles. This product contains three, one with 4 graphics, one with 9, and a third with 16.

Objective: This activity tests students on finding whole number quotients.

Standard: This puzzle is aligned with the following fifth grade common core standard:

CCSS.Math.Content.5.NBT.B.6—Find whole-number quotients of whole numbers with up to four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division.

To complete the puzzle the students must match up the quotient with the original division problem. Threeversions of the puzzle are included, each with a varying number of end of year/summer graphics. One puzzle contains 4 graphics, One puzzle contains 9 graphics, and one contains a graphic on each individual piece. As the number of graphics increases, so does the difficulty allowing for differentiation amongst ability groups. The puzzles vary in the graphics and not the division problems.

Directions: Print out the gameboard on cardstock and have it laminated . Cut out the sixteen pieces and pass them out to individual students or to a group of students. The students must match up the equivalent units to complete the 4 x 4 Grid. There are two versions of the puzzle included.

What has been successful for us is to give points for correctly completing the puzzle, and extra credit points for the first few groups that finish. The Roman numerals are there so that you can quickly check for accuracy.
