Place value is the foundation on which 5th grade math understanding is built. These task cards will give your students many opportunities to apply their place value knowledge and enable you to identify those students who may need extra support!
These task cards can be used in several ways. The cards could be put in a math center. They could become a small group lesson or even a whole class game of what I call "Pass A Problem".
Place a task card problem on each of your students' desks. When students have solved the problem, they give a thumbs up. When all students are ready to move, the students then walk to the next desk and are ready to solve a different problem. When students are back at their own desk, the walk about is finished. Now students are ready to discuss and check their answers.
This activity has 24 different place value problems which will allow you to tailor the center to the needs of your students. This product could also have students travel with a partner and together solve the problem, so not all questions need to be used. A teacher answer sheet and student recording sheet are also included.
This activity addresses 5.NBT.1, 5.NBT.2, 5NBT.3, 5NBT.4
