Students need frequent practice with basic skills and this daily Powerpoint presentation provides it!
Advance to a new slide at the beginning of class, and students will take a few moments to practice basic operations with whole numbers, decimals, and place value concepts. After a few moments, advance to the next slide, and students can self-correct. I offer a question and answer time after students have graded and reteach when appropriate. It only takes a few minutes of class time and NO MORE COPIES!
I have students use the same piece of notebook paper for an entire week, then turn it in on Friday. I found as time went by, students' basic skills improved, and they were also more likely to ask questions if they didn't understand a concept.
A blank slide is included between each set of slides so you can keep the board blank until the majority of the students are seated and ready to go.
You may notice that 4th grade Common Core practice in these areas is also included. Just because students have reached 5th grade doesn't always mean they have mastered 4th grade skills.
Slides follow a six-day pattern:
Day 1 - addition, Day 2 - multiplication, Day 3 - subtraction, Day 4 - division, Day 5 - place value, Day 6 - word problems
There are enough slides for 42 days.
This is the first set I am posting. Be watching for three more sets which cover additional concepts and will cover an entire year of school.
