PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

5th Grade Common Core Vocabulary for Reading Literature!

I have found that my students are more successful mastering content when they are front loaded with the necessary vocabulary for each standard. I have searched for a resource that would fit my students’ needs in this area, and was not successful in finding one. So I decided to create my own! I require my students to memorize this vocabulary and continue to spiral it throughout the year. I feel this resource has helped to increased my students’ test scores!

This resource is designed to be used when you introduce each Reading Literature standard. Each standard begins with an “I can” statement followed by the vocabulary words with a section for the definition and a section for a picture or sentence. All definitions are provided on the teacher pages while sentences and/or pictures should be generated or brainstormed together as a class. This is especially helpful for ELL students. Please note that many of the vocabulary words apply to more than one standard, and each word is only introduced once. Since I require my students to memorize each definition, and I continue to spiral them throughout the year, I have them look back at definitions that have already been covered when vocabulary words apply to a new standard. You can change this is the editable version if you like.

Resource Includes: A 26 page vocabulary packet for students and a 5 page packet for teachers which includes the standards, vocabulary words, and definitions. There is also an editable version in Power Point that can be used as a presentation as well. The editable version is for those of you that would like to add or delete vocabulary words, or for those of you that would like to have the definitions typed on the student pages prior to the lesson. Print out the Power Point after you have done your editing, and you will get pages that look just like a Word document. There are also blank pages available.
