Make implementing reader's workshop a breeze by having your conferring and small group lessons planned for you! This product is aligned with Interpretation Book Clubs: Analyzing Themes (Unit 1: Fifth Grade) from the Lucy Calkins Reader's Workshop program, and has plans for all 19 sessions in the unit!
Included in this product:
-Conferring Guide that guides you step by step through your conferring session
-Small Group Planner that aligns each session with applicable Jennifer Serravallo lessons from "The Reading Strategies Book" (Session 7 does use strategies from "The Writing Strategies Book" by Jennifer Serravallo)
-Recording Sheets to track student progress
There is a conferring guide for each session that follows the research, decide, compliment, teach model. In the research section, there are session specific questions that you can ask students to monitor their progress towards the learning target, as well as an answer key so you know what you are looking for in student responses. For the decide section, each session has a checklist that breaks down the learning target into chunks, which you can use to identify "missing pieces" students have. This makes the decide portion of the conference easy, as you can easily see what needs to be taught by seeing what items students missed on the checklist. For the compliment section, you can refer to your checklist and provide student with specific feedback about the items that they achieved on the checklist. In the teach section, there are short 2 - 3 minute lessons to address each checklist item. There is even an extension teaching point for students who have already met the day's learning target!
The small group planner aligns each reader's workshop session with lessons from Jennifer Serravallo's "The Reading Strategies Book". These lessons are short and easy to implement, making them perfect for small group work! There is a small group lesson alignment for reteaching the session's teaching point, as well as a small group lesson alignment for students that need an extension. Each session comes with a planning sheet to assign students to small groups based on their performance in mini lesson and in their independent work. This is perfect for quickly pulling needs-based groups!
Recording sheets are also provided to track student progress across the Narrative Learning Progression. The "Unit at a Glance" recording sheet tracks student progress across the Narrative Learning Progression by strand.
