This is an engaging review activity I created in order to help my 5th graders review for their cumulative benchmark. Students work in pairs to solve question #1, and then bring it up to the teacher to get checked. Then, they get question #2, and so on. They must show their work and be prepared to explain in words their rationale for their answer before getting the next question. I work in an inclusion classroom, so we have two teachers in the room who students can check in with during the relay. There are 12 problems total, and they are organized two to a page so you can cut the pages in half and students take one problem/half-page at a time. Although it is called a "relay race," we emphasize that it is not about who finishes the quickest. Students LOVE reviewing for tests this way. Skills include but are not limited to: operating (adding and subtracting) with fractions, order of operations, multi-digit multiplication, division and interpreting remainders, and coordinate grids.
