Looking to EXTEND your thinkers? Does your data shows your students met the target and are ready for more? This packet is filled with activities that not only challenge, but bring the fun back into math. Using this format requires students to start with a required activity that mirrors a typical target-based extends problem. Next students have options to choose to do 3 more activities that challenge students thinking in a truly engaging way. The main page contains the overview for the packet.
This rather wacky, out-of-the box thinking activity has students looking at three traditional stories or songs- I Knew an Old Lady, Rapunzel, and Jack and the beanstalk. Students explore how much all those animals weighed the lady ate, what an average person eats by weight per day and if she were eating pizzas instead, how many pizza she would have to eat to equal all those animals. And Rapuzel.....how long & heavy is her hair? And Jack? How long would it take him to climb to the clouds? And how many degrees does the temperature change as he climbs?
PLUS a bonus one-page activity for the EXTENDS... a writing connection using the math data to expose students to a different writing form. Perfect prep for PARCC tests!
