While teaching decimals in fifth grade I find that students tend to understand certain pieces of the standard and not others at various times. I have created these “quick checks” that I give to my students at the end or beginning of the math lesson to see where they are at and what we need to focus on.
There are 12 different sheets that cover a mixture of the following parts of the standard: value of digits, place value of digits, comparing decimals, rounding decimals, ordering up to four decimals, writing decimals in expanded notation, decimals that are in expanded notation and students have to write them in standard form, and word form of decimals. Decimals on the sheets go up to the thousandths place. The mixture of these skills is great for spiral review too!
You can use these as homework sheets, laminate and place them at math centers to use with expos, quick reviews at beginning or end of lessons, assessments, etc. There is plenty of room on the sheet for the students to write their answers or even line up their decimals while ordering and/or comparing them.
Be sure to print in landscape format.
I have included an answer document for ease in checking answers. There is also a page with “I can statements” broken down for the standard for you or the student to check off with the date or even just a check mark when they can successfully complete each piece of the standard.
This document is aligned to: TEKS 5.2A, 5.2B, 5.2C and CCSS 5.NBT.3, 5.NBT.3.A, 5.NBT.3.B, 5.NBT.4
