Description

These student portfolio pages were created for students to record and present their progress in their ELA standards aligned to Common Core. They can be used to organize and track any work from these standards. These pages are meant to be dividers for student work portfolios, and also provide a space for students to write personal reflections and record progress throughout the year. The pages are divided into clusters and include a simplified learning goal, reflection sheet, and coloring boxes for scales 1-4.

*Extra pages for The Six Traits of Writing have been added after the Writing standards, in case you also grade students in this way. For more information visit The Six Traits of Writing Definitions and Rubrics

Inspired by Marzano's research in “The Art and Science of Teaching” these pages have a place to break down every standard into scales from 0-4 (levels of difficulty). Scales support the idea that students learn skills and understand concepts in a progressive way. Instead of presenting students with an assessment that is pass or fail, right or wrong, students are pre-assessed first recognizing what a child already knows (usually scales 1-2). Then students can color in the boxes representing their pretest level and set personal goals. After instruction and post-testing, students revisit their progress by coloring in their final level of mastery and reflecting on their goals and progress. Written reflections will vary widely depending on age-level.

Proficiency in each math standard is represented by a score of 3. A score of 4 indicates an advanced knowledge of the skill, usually above grade level. Scores of 2 and 1, are either derived from sub-skills of the standard, or from the background knowledge of earlier grade levels. A score of 0 on the learning scale means that no boxes are colored, either because the standard hasn't been covered or because the student shows no prior skill or knowledge even with help.

Help your students, families, and administrators SEE the progress your students are making! POSTERS with Marzano Scales already done for you give examples of skills for each level of the standards.
