Do you want your students to enjoy and develop a love for reading, but you still want to be able to hold them accountable for high reading expectations? That's why I created these reading choice boards!
This product is a set of 2 choice boards for fiction reading responses that I made to use in my own fifth grade classroom. It is ideal for upper elementary and middle grades students. It has 25 boxes/choices for students to select. They vary from short/easy to longer and more involved. Some are for the very creative, while others are more straightforward book report-type activities. Students will take ownership over this because they have the ability to CHOOSE!
I set a number (10-15) that my students have to complete before switching out for a new choice board, that way they do a variety of activities but don't have to do anything they truly don't want to.
This tool is perfect for accountability during reading workshop/guided reading groups. It's also a great way to help students keep track of how many chapter books they have read, especially if you have a set expectation for the year or don't have A.R., as my school doesn't.
For the choice board itself, most of the activities are No-Prep or Low-Prep. Some of them include files that you might want to purchase, although many are free downloads. Any of the choices that require an outside source have hyperlinks to the documents or resources that I used.
If you are interested in the nonfiction reading choice board as well, check out this BUNDLE that I created!
5th Grade Reading Choice Boards BUNDLE
You will be receiving one choice board at half price (it would be $4.00 to purchase both of these files separately, so you end up saving $1.00 by buying them together!)
