This activity is a STEM lesson involving 5th grade Social Studies GPS.
Students research a specific inventor from a list of influential Americans. They then are required to write 3 paragraphs based on their research.
For the Engineering, groups will be given an assigned material (either wire, fishing line, or yarn, and 2 plastic cups) to build a "telephone." Each group will test their invention, as well as the others, to determine sound quality.
To incorporate math, students will make a pie graph based on their findings as to who thought which invention had the best sound quality.
Research graphic organizer, lined writing paper, and data charts are included.
