This instructional resource packet has been successfully used to teach Core Content for Assessment 4.1 in Social Studies. The answer keys for lesson questions and review study guide can be used to go over expected answers with students, and once students have corrected their responses, lesson questions may be kept as notes to help them prepare for the chapter test. The review PowerPoint can be used in conjunction with the study guide to provide students a comprehensive review prior to the test. Then, using the PowerPoint Jeopardy games on the day before the test practically guarantees student success, as the opportunity to compete against classmates motivates students to actually study the content! The Jeopardy qualification exam can be used to assess student preparedness prior to playing Jeopardy. The chapter test consists of multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, matching, short answer questions, and an extended response question. Since using these resources to support the Harcourt Social Studies program, our students’ social studies content knowledge and skills have drastically improved.
