This assessment/activity is aligned to the GEORGIA 5th grade geography and history standards, but probably matches most of what you need your 5th grade students to know if you teach in another state as well. Students will enjoy this activity which involves labeling certain historical and physical locations as well as answering a few questions. This makes for great state test prep review or you can use it year round. The directions for students to do on the included map are in italics, and the questions are not. Answer keys are included.
There is a two page assessment activity with map labeling and questions (18 total questions). There is also an answer key.
Students will answer and locate regarding the following: Wright Brother's flight, Confederate/Union States and their economi specialization/view on slavery, locating 49th and 5oth states, where Ghettysburg was, Chisholm Trail, Great Plains/Homestead Act, Salton Sea, Great Salt Lake, Mojave Desert, Montgomery Bus Boycott, Fort Sumter, Grand Canyon, Ellis Island, and September 11.
