This Landforms poster is designed to aide students in understanding that landforms are created through the processes of weathering, erosion, and deposition. The three main types of landforms that students are tested on in 5th grade are the creation of sand dunes, river deltas, and canyons.
The Texas TEK (5.7B) is listed within the poster inlcuding if the TEK is a Readiness or Supporting Standard. The verb and nouns are highlighted in a color other than black.
Students should be read the TEK before the lesson begins. The teacher and the students should discuss the TEK; the students need to understand that the verb is what they have to do once the teacher is finished with the lesson. The nouns include, but are not limited to, the vocabulary contained within the lesson.
Once I created the poster, I used a poster maker to blow-up the original size (8.5 x 11) to a true poster size document. I hung the Landforms poster at the front of my class and used this method as the ENGAGE part of my lesson. I allowed students to use the poster as a "cheat" throughout the lesson. Once I was finished with the unit, I took the Landforms poster down to begin a new unit.
This poster is successful if the teacher constantly uses it as a reference throughout the lesson.
