Do you find yourself struggling with planning Lucy Calkins lessons? There is a lot of text to muddle through, and that makes it time consuming to plan each lesson! If you're like me, it can also be hard to compress the lessons into a specific learning target for your students. Lets be real - sometimes we just don't have 30 minutes a day (or more!) to plan one lesson!
Reclaim your time by guiding your students through these 11 lessons that are based on the Learning Through Reading (Westward Expansion) unit in the If...Then...curriculum. I have taken the guesswork out of the If...Then...curriculum by planning each part of your mini lesson (Connection, Teaching Point, Teaching, Active Engagement and Link) as well as selecting mentor texts and passages for you to use for each lesson - which the If...Then...curriculum does not provide. In addition, I have given you prompts for students to write about the day's target in their reader's notebooks during workshop time, as well as topics to discuss during the Share (ending portion) of your lesson.
Also included are planning sheets and rubrics for your students to create an oral report as their culminating project for the unit.
Please make sure to check out the preview - you can see my introduction to unit as well as see an example lesson, to make sure this resource is the right fit for you!
