This is a comprehensive study guide on plants that was written for Scott Foresman's 5th Grade Science (Diamond Edition). While it was definitely designed to be paired with the text, it would also serve as a great guide for researching plants with any other sources as well.
The four lessons include leaves, stems, and roots as plant organs, as well as types of sexual and asexual reproduction and growth. It is actually a great introduction into the topic of general reproduction, as the process of fertilization in animals is very similar to that of flowering plants. Each lesson contains vocabulary, key terms, research questions, and an essential question that would be perfect for using as essays on a plants assessment. I also use the essays for writing preparation during Language Arts instruction.
The zipped file includes the research guide, a copy of the same research guide with page numbers where the answers can be found, and a thorough answer key.
I also just updated my store with a Plants Assessment that is paired perfectly with this research guide and the Next Generation Science Standards! Check this product out as well for easy planning of an entire plants unit!
Plants Assessment - 5th Grade
My students have done very well with this. Each year, they report that this is the most work they put into a chapter, but that they really understand everything by the end. I hope it works as well for you! Enjoy:-)
